Welding and Wood turning: Design your own Mace or Torch
August 20 @ 12:00 PM - August 21 @ 2:00 PM
THIS IS A TWO DAY CLASS - SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. 12pm- 3:30/4pm
In this class we will be learning how to design our own flanged maces (or basket torches) using modern tools.
With the help of vector drawing software and a CNC plasma cutter, students will personalize the design and then learn to cut it out.
From there we will move on to sanding and grinding tools, cut off tools, and wire wheels.
Next, we will be assembling our mace heads using a mig welder. Depending on the available time, we will begin finishing our welding work with abrasive tools.
On day two, we will be learning to operate a wood lathe.
Students will turn their own mace handles to mechanically fit their heads, and add beauty to the handle.
We will also learn about air powered metal finishing tools, which we will use to refine and smooth our welding work and finish our metal surfaces.
At the end of the day, we will assemble our mace and learn about finishing wooden tool handles for longevity, grip, comfort, and beauty.
**AGES:** This class is suitable for ages 16 - 116.
Please wear closed toe shoes and bring a long sleeve denim or heavy cotton shirt to weld in. (NO FLANNEL PLEASE)
